Hey,

I don't really like the default music player. I was searching the market but couldn't find one that looked good (except dtunes but people were saying it doesn't get updated anymore). Any suggestions for good working music player apps with good UIs?

Thanks

Best advice would be to read this thread starting from the first post. There's several discussed in this thread already. Smiley

Even the pre had a better music player and the upcoming windows phone with zune music player will be awesome !! so is there a way to sync effeciently my zune music to my Vivid? and i dont mean using the windows media sync. thanks peeps

Well, I have had my Vivid for about a month and can tell you this: DoubleTwist basically doubled, tripled, or quadrupled many of the playlists in my iTunes onto their set up.  It then transferred that crap to my phone.  Quite frankly, it pissed me off!  I uninstalled and reinstalled both on the phone and on my computer...same results.

MixZing...maybe I'm just a functional moron, but I still can't understand it.  I'd LOVE to know how to create playlists on the go with it and more importantly, CLEAR the playlists that it created THAT I NEVER WANTED.  Yes, I have that option turned off...they're still there.  Even more fun?  It copied all the playlists that DoubleTwist copied a thuosand times.

As for DRM MUSIC files not being a worry, there are a ton of those that don't transfer with EITHER program and yes, I bought the Mixzing upgrade.  VERY FRUSTRATING.

It would be FANTASTIC to learn how to fix all that stuff.

Until then, the only program that even comes close to being halfway decent is Jam11.  It uses virtually no space and it streams music from your home computer to your phone.  It's basically a slingbox for your iTunes, but even it misses songs that are in the iTunes folder.  Don't ask me how, but it does.  As long as you have an unlimited data plan (which we all do since we have the Vivid), then it's worth the download.  You don't even need to buy the bigger SD card.

LOVE my phone, but this is the ONLY thing frustrating me.

OK, so now I'm just trying to delete everything off the phone and start all over again.  It's tedious.  For the  moment, I have deleted MixZing and I've also deleted DoubleTwist.  Some music, however, is still on my phone in the stock player.  How the heck do I get it off of it?!?

OK, so here's what I've done.  After deleting everthing off the phone and computer, I tried to resync my music folders with Jam11.  Same songs remain missing.  Also, I tried OrbLive.  It didn't pick up the same songs from the music folder.  Seems iTunes REALLY wanted to protect those files!  Who knew the rock band Europe was so damn popular?!?  Anyway, since I don't watch vids on the computer at home, I didn't see the need to pay $10 for it on my phone.  Uninstall.

Anyway, I CAN'T be the only person that has had this problem.  I'm now guessing the only way around it is tuneSync-and I'm not to keen on paying $30+ for the program.  Somehow, I will need to find a solution.

flowride,
The DRMed music is music you paid for, right?  I avoid DRMed media, it usually just causes more of a headache than it is worth.  I wouldn't buy a shirt that only lets me wear it sometimes and to some places, so I'm not going to pay for music that only lets me listen to it sometimes.  A lot of places offer non-DRM music.  It depends on the record label, but Amazon and i think even iTunes offers non-DRM versions if it is available from the label.

It seems like it would be easier to just manually transfer music and playlist files yourself, rather than syncing via iTunes or whatever.  In my experience music syncing software always messes something up, like how i have things organized and duplicates as you have mentioned.

A free alternative to Orblive, at least with music, is Gmote.  Aside from the other cool features of Gmote, you can stream from pc to phone via wifi or 3g for free.  Orblive is probably more stable, but i have never had any problems with Gmote at all.

OK, so I have been talking with the makers of Jam11, the iTunes streaming app that I use.  Here's what they said.  If you have music in iTunes that was purchased before January 2009, it will NOT transfer or play in any way, shape, or form on ANY streaming program until the DRM is removed and the file type is changed.  Period.  That's the reason why it didn't work on OrbLive, either.  The same songs that played on Jam11 were the same ones that streamed  on Orb.  The guy was RIGHT!

There are three ways of doing so.  ONE-buying something like TuneClone or Tunebite, to the tune of $40, and having the DRM ripped.  TWO-paying Apple 30 cents a song to remove the DRM.  Roughly 12.5G of my library doesn't transfer, so that's out!  THREE-buying some DVR's and backing up my files to them.  This...is the cheapest way.  Make a playlist containing everything, which I've done, and start ripping.

The biggest problem with the Cloning programs is that most only record a CD at a time on their virtual burner, so burning over 12G of music would take forever.  If there is one that can do all songs at once, someone please let me know.  The least labor intensive way to do this would be "one click and forget about it."  That is, until there's some sort of program interruption, which I'm sure there always is!

Sooo...if anyone now has advice on a good DRM ripper, give me a shout.

Edit: Update #1: I downloaded the FREE version of Tunebite.  I had 980 songs to convert, so I figured I'd give their free trial a shot.  When it's all said and done, I will let you know if it worked.  Allegedly, their premium software also allows you to visit YouTube, watch and record music videos, and will copy a file of the song to MP3 format.  If all that's true, BYE BYE ITunes...FOREVER.

I'll keep y'all posted.

I've recently switched from paid Mixzing to the PowerAmp trial. I like it much more.

Haven't tried PowerAmp yet. I just use jam11 and stream from my home computer. I am not crazy about Mixzing or any of the other apps I've tried. Even with the controls off, Mixzing continues to make "playlists" of my music-some of which are only 1 SONG! I also just keep about 50-60 songs on my phone in case the music stream gets interrupted.

As for that Tunebite program, I highly recommend it. You have to buy it for their software to convert entire protected AAC stuff but it's worth it.  You can also download music and movies for free with their premium version. Good stuff.

Last.fm is much better than Pandora. Pandora tends to suggest music I hate because a band has 1 song similar in sound or genre to what I punch in whereas Last.fm bases it all off the entire band's sound, discography, and friands. So you won't get Jimmy Buffet when you create a station from Animal Collective.

Just give that song you hate a "thumbs down". If you do that twice for the same artist, they get banned from that station.

Once you "tune up" a station is Pandora, it's awesome.

BTW, I use the paid version. It's a real bargain at $3 a month (no more ads).
