I am trying to get Exchange sync to work on my Vivid. It keeps giving me an Authentication error say user name or password is invalid. I have checked it several times and they are correct. I ran this on my Palm pre with no problems. Anybody have any advice for me

To setup an exchange account, you have to do so under manual setup.

Sometimes folks also hit the space bar right after typing in a user name or password into a field.  A space, in many cases, is counted as a "character" as well.  I found this out the hard way.

For the longest time, I couldn't get Exchange Active Sync to work with the default mail client on my Vivid.  Always got "unable to create account".  I learned that there was some kind of issue with it but the folks at MS were working on establishing support for the phone.  Finally, last week, I decided to try it again (last time I attempted was quite some time ago) and viola!  It worked!  NOW, I have my email via Outlook/Hotmail synced between my iPad (Apple IOS) and my Vivid (Android).  How cool is that??

This is along the same lines as the problem above, but I'm running into some similar issues.  I have the Vivid 4G and had been using Windows Live's hotmail feature for months.  Everything's syncing like it should.  But then I decided to change the "Download Past Mail" to 30 days.  Thinking that wouldn't be a problem, I exited out after confirming.  But then the major problems began.  All the messages disappeared, and I kept getting the "New Mail" across the top of the phone.  So, then I noticed the inbox keeps flickering like it's constantly pushing for mail.  It's set to Manual!  So, I figured I'd restart the phone. Same problems. "New Mail" won't go away. Even read messages (when I can click on them) won't sync with the server that's actually read.  Long story short - I just deleted the account.  Tried to re-enter it and start over, right?  Now, it gives me the "Failed to create account.. blah blah".  This won't go away no matter what.

So.. do I need to completely hard reset the phone?  Is this usual or common on Vivids?  I have some major calendar stuff I'd like to sync with my home PC via Live.  Any ideas?  I've also tried "Clearing Data" from the Mail app as well.  No dice.

Any help is appreciated.

There are definitely issues with HTC and Exchange in general, and this phone in particular.  I've have the phone since it came out, and have struggled with the SSL error since the beginning.  I tried the Touchdown route, and that worked for awhile, then started having the same issues.  I hate Touchdown, so went back to the native mail, and I lose sync at least once every two or three weeks.  While it was typically mail early on, now it's almost always calendar, and mail and contacts are fine.  I generally have to delete the Exchange account and add it again, which takes way too much time (It's a work account, and I have a crap load of emails, appts and contacts).  Last night I lost calendar sync and went through the whole delete/add, and lost it again an hour later.  Oh, and I just checked my phone and now mail isn't syncing.  Anyway, I joined this forum today, hoped to find a magic answer, but at least I know I'm not alone!  Smiley
